Perfect skin, mocha eyes, hair of a goddess, and her smell of the freshest flowers, can only begin to describe the magnificence of her, my first crush. No matter the duration of time passed or number of years you have grown in age one never forgets their first crush, however in today’s time where romance is a thing of the past, and civility is slowly vanishing away, I wonder do crushes still exist. Television, movies, and music have slowly reshaped our views of sex and love, thus people don’t seem to have time to crushe on someone, none the less peruse them. As I walk down the hallways of elementary schools where there were once voices of ” I like her a lot so I want you tell her I like her, but don’t tell her I told you to say it” has amazingly been replaced with , ” Dawg, that gurl got a big old booty I cant wait to tap that”. I stood there in astonishment trying to figure out why my little brother knows what “tap that” is knowing in my mind he doesn’t even know the responsibilities that come along with it .
Freshman Amber Thibodeaux said “people these day are too worried about sex and how they are going to get it rather than people’s feeling and the art of love”. I have come to believe that the crushes you have when you are younger help mold you into the person you are today. Life is an experience that is meant to be learned from so if a crush goes badly human nature tells you to do things a little differently next time.”
As you grow so does your knowledge of people’s feelings and how to go about handling them. If not for the crushes of my past I may not have been fortunate enough to have experienced the love I have today. Though the act of crushing is at the break of annihilation, it’s not too late so restore, what has been lost. We must teach our brothers, sisters, and our very own children, that what they see on TV and movies is just that TV and movies.
There is a dynamic gap between real life and what is portrayed to be as such. Crushing may not seem to be that big of a deal, but it isn’t just about that, it’s innocence, and purity that comes along with it. Now with the dawning age of STDs maybe we should take a break from trying to get someone sexually and just crush.
